Hoboken Revolt

The Hoboken Tax Reform Coalition

When you Google this issue, it is apparent across the country that many municipalities have the same issue. Each city/town has too many speakers and the meetings do run till 12-2am. Is the timeline on a meeting the basis to curb the community from their right to speak at the city council? Does it also give the right to the council president to decide what is tolerable and what is not? I don’t think so…….

I thought the Zimmer Clan was all for open and transparent government, this is starting to feel otherwise. I would be shocked if Hoboken does not revolt on this resolution.

I am all for calm, rationale conversation at city council meetings and people should not present personal attacks to the council, but to limit speaking is Un-American. Many towns have this issue and the overwhelming majority votes for 3-5 mins and ask the residents to behave appropriately. Case closed.

A vote to limit speaking will be the nail in the coffin for this so-called reform group.

As a member of the "Zimmer clan" I was up there with you and so were many Zimmer supporters demanding free speech be maintained. Let's see what they come out with. Hopefully they will use public input is reaching a conclusion that works better for everybody.

Peter and Carol really screwed up on this one! So much for halting our right to speak! 17 people spoke up and were heard. The balance of the council gave them an ear full for not asking them first. This is unfortunately a city council that does not know how to work together. It is time that they start working together, stop talking so much, stop bickering and start getting the job done.
Instead of everyone worrying about who's side they are on, they should all start working closer together to really get the job done! 3 meetings or 10 meetings a month...does not matter...get it done!

I thought the First Amendment still applied in Hoboken? Now I see that members of the public “shall refrain from making personal, impertinent, slanderous, or profane remarks to any member of the council (and) the administration.”
This is so typical of so-called reformers. Free speech is the first thing to go. How can you enforce a law that limits what people can say? We're not talking about yelling "fire" or threatening violence. Are Carol and Peter going to form an impertinence posse?
The meetings go on too long? boo hoo. You don't like being called names? boo hoo
