Escrow statement for 2010 shows City Tax increase

I'm writing to see if anyone else has received their annual escrow recalculation from their mortgage company. Mine says a city tax increase of $2,000 from 17K to 19K. Thats close to a 12% increase. Has anyone else received similar increases. When I contacted the tax collector they said," We'll we have to wait until the city receives the state, county and school budgets for 2010, which won't be until August. It sounds to me that our elected officials are trying to squeeze yet more water from an already dry rock. What gives? Is there any relief in sight?

I receive my tax bill direct from the city. My taxes went up as well about the same % as yours. it's not an illusion. The mayor can't do arithmetic. There was no tax decrease. Spending went up despite her campaign claims. Until the city demands a total revaluation we will never see a fair tax rate for all. I see properties that are worth 10 times my property and taxes at less than half. Why? because they were "valued" for tax roles back in 1988!. give me a break.
