Last year I thought Corzine's deal to freeze public salaries and furlough workers was a step forward. I was wrong.
The deal came with restrictions on layoffs. So now the crisis is deeper and Christie says, “I cannot lay off one state worker, I cannot furlough one state worker.” “It’s an exquisite set of handcuffs.”

If the City needs money, why don't they fine property owners that don't shovel their sidewalks??? It's crazy....
I assume they don't because (from what I can tell) it's mostly the original locals that don't shovel - not the yuppies. Not only is it loss of revenue, it's dangerous!

When commuting home last night it came to my attention that Hoboken now has a Taxi dispatcher for the cab line at the PATH station. I asked my taxi driver if it was a policeman, since he had a badge, but was told he is a city employee and has been around for about a month. His job, as witnessed last night, is to ask people in line where they are headed and then relay that information to the cab.

Governor Christie per executive edict has cut Hoboken School Aid by $669,521 for the Fiscal School Year of 2009-2010 with only less than 5 months to go. It is anticipated these cuts will also apply to the 2010-2011 budget.
Last week, a preliminary outline of the 2010-2011 Hoboken School Budget was distributed at the BOE meeting and stated the assumption that State Aid F

I was excited when Hoboken Revolt first hit the scene. It was all about getting property taxes down. I attended a rally at city hall and voiced support whenever I could.
But to my consternation the group seems to have lost its way. We ought to be storming city hall with torches and pitchforks over the fact that the promised a 25% reduction in city taxes has instead turned into an increase. Yes, the mayor and council have limited powers under the fiscal monitor. But that is no excuse for failing…

There are big philosophical differences regarding the most effective way to provide public education. The debate is particularly relevant here in Hoboken where the cost of our educational system is relatively high while the performance and results are below what we are capable of.
Governor Christie's educational transition team released their "
Education Summary Report" on January 16th detailing their recomm…

Will Zimmer join Bloomberg in denouncing Obama's ill-conceived plans?
From
www.hobokenrepublicans.com/blog:
Right on the heels of his proposed tax on financial institutions, the President is now calling for severe new restrictions on the size and activities of our nation's banks.
In his latest press conference, Mayor Bloomberg blasted Obama's plans, noting that banks are the foundation of New York's economy. In last week's pre…

Hoboken throws some of the best gatherings and this Sunday the town is throwing a big concert at Maxwell's: Hoboken for Haiti Relief. A full day lineup splitting an afternoon and evening affair is all set and ready to light it up. The nominal cost of $10 for individual and $20 for family means it's easily accessible and how can you beat a full afternoon and evening of live music?
The event is a group effort with WFMU, Maxwell's and The Guitar Bar with a family event running from 2:00 to 4:00 pm…

Just curious if anyone else smells the Chlorine that is put in Hoboken's water supply periodically?? I myself have water filter's in my home as I am allergic to Chlorine. Chlorine is highly toxic and is regulated by the government as a must for the US water supply. It seems to me though if you can actually smell it that it is too much. I have called the town on this and of course they say it is within regulation. Any thoughts??

Last night Ian Sacs and Brandy Forbes of Hoboken City Hall conducted a meeting at the Elks Clubs to inform Hoboken Citizens details of the Viaduct Project at 14th as planned by Hudson County.
The meeting started out with Ian Sacs managing expectations a bit in that the main construction plans have been pretty much finalized by the County but that Hoboken residents could have some say in what occupies the space below the viaduct for three blocks between Grand and Madison Streets.
The ma…
