Kurt, I met last night with a group of people from Hoboken Revolt and from LowerHobokenTaxes.com - I have been charged with organizing "stuff" like props, signage, etc for the rally a week from tomorrow - and the group said I should contact you and coordinate our activities. Below is the email I sent out to my group. I have purchased the pitchforks already (wow, never thought I'd type that) but I need help with signage, and the effigy. You can contact me at jvsteiner@gmail.com if you have input - I will add you to all correspondence. I'm looking forward to working with you.
Tarred and feathered Roberts Effigy: How does one make an effigy, anyway? Feathers could be had easily I suppose - an old pillow. Tar, on the other hand... I suppose glue would be a better way to go - just put it over a tar-looking material. How big is an effigy? The head is a problem - need a plastic head of some kind...
Kurt: Since my comments are very specific, I thought I would send them to you directly. I wanted to thank you forr posting the clip from the council meeting. I agree with your comments, but believe we all need to be a little less sensitive, and perhaps more important, - we all need to turn down the rhetoric.... a lot. I was at the council meeting ralley and heard a member of one of these groups make sweeping statements about 'the majority of the people in the room feeling a certain way' - I was offended. I was in the room, never spoke to the speaker and did not agree with a lot of his comments, starting with his initially refusing to provide his address. Ironic when he is part of the steering committee for HobokenRevolt - a group that requires people to provide an email and other personal info before being able to view the forum and then, to hear comments about the group as a whole and the people in the room. An inaccurate comment. His other comments came off as class warfare from the other direction (see - too sensitive on the other side) even though I don't believe it was his intention i.e. - 'We have the power now and we're gonna use it!' - How are people who might differ on one or another issue supposed to feel? Attacked? Angry? Confused? Repulsed? Also, the continued mantra about who is or isn't paying their fair share also sounds like class warfare. Who is the arbiter of what is "fair"? The more the community is sliced, diced and factioned into demographics, the less likely that there will be any positive change.
