At 12:32am on January 27, 2009, Kurt Gardiner said…: Jack. First sorry for getting back to you so late. Actually, I did speak to Mike Russo about this issue at the school board meeting. I said I was not privy to the emails that he recieved that I could imagine some negative neo-con emails and comments about those who need subsidized housing. I told him nicely that I was offended at the time how it appeared his speech to be directed at me and other concerned tax payers as well. He explained that he was specifically targeting those emails. We had a goood discussion and I said I understood how politically he has his base although I want to see more revenue from those buildings, I fully support those who need the help should get it and that many others that I know feel the same way. I was pleased to see Revolt publish the PILOT Principles as I think generally fair and do not come accross us a group that wants to upheave the lives of those who need subsidized housing. I have aggreed with Mike Russo's voting record on a lot of things and my post was more of a fair warning than an outright attack.

I was much more impressed with his rapport with members of Revolt at the last City Council Meeting especially Toni as he seemed to be trying to understand the implications of the legalities before he makes a hasty decision. To me that is a positive first step and I will continue to monitor what happens. That is progress. I appreciate your feedback.

The tax increase effects homeowners most immediately and they are most aware of the issue. Most renters are not aware that a special "tax surcharge" may be passed along to them to cover landlords.
