Duck.
http://www.politickernj.com/43195/sources-ags-office-steps-paterson...The AG means business. That Paterson case is going slow, but it's going. Occhipinti's missing ELEC reports will not bode well. It's one thing to be late when a bunch of bloggers are up in arms about it, it's another when the AG is paying attention.
I have already explained why I think this is a suitable topic for a site that is focused on tax reform but can distill it as needed.
The council majority is now squarely anti-reform. To a man and woman. 2 have often repeated the disinformation that there is a $20million surplus.
The combination of that cavalier attitude about the financial facts and health of the city and a penchant for buying votes should not be treated, arbitrarily, as separate issues.
3 of the 4 remaining 'reformers' are at-large seats. Starting the next city-wide election at, say, a 400 vote deficit could basically reduce reform once again to a noisy minority incapable of passing legislation. The people who brought us financial disaster and their backers will be back in full force.
That is why this case needs to be carried through to the end. It's not about the 4th Ward race, at least to me.
