Third Place Mayoral Candidate Possibly Seeks More Unnecessary Punishment and Excessive Expenditures

Here is my take on Beth's announcement:

For those who are Beth Mason supporters don't be too upset with me. I am trying more Onion-esque headlines to give my website a little more editorial flair. It is just a little joke.

Once again Beth Mason's timing on the press release is in such politically poor taste. This announcement could have easily waited until next week when the buzz of Peter Cammarano's resignation and Dawn Zimmer's swearing in had cooled a bit. Or was there fear of losing her chance at the limelight like Sarah Palin?

Now I have a good degree of respect for Beth Mason's accomplishments in transparency and some of her legislative efforts as a City Council person. She is hard working and honest but her doctrinal shift right before the Mayor's race cost her a good chuck of her base. That coupled with a series of really poor strategical political decisions really cost her political capital that will be hard to completely recoup.

I hope this isn't a sign of more of the same behaviors that I witnessed myself of her on the last campaign. With that said, Beth's proposal for the North West area has some merit even if you don't like the idea of a minor league ballpark. At least it is not all condos with very little affordable housing like the last 16 years under Roberts and Russo. I encourage anyone who would like to know more to reach out to her staff to get more information about her proposal for developing that area.

In lieu of running for Mayor, Beth Mason could bring her experience in crafting resolutions for open and accountable governement. If she so chooses she could be a key player in helping Dawn achieve a better run Hoboken Government. Both women have invested a lot of time and energy to get the coveted prize that Peter Cammarano held and squandered for a mere 30 1/2 days.

With politics being anything but certain in Hoboken anything could happen. Beth Mason certainly has a right to run as well as anyone else of a certain age and Hoboken residency. It could indeed be a large field of candidates so let the best man or woman win.

In conclusion: Couldn't this press release at least wait until Monday?

Here is her press release on a possible run:

Statement of Hoboken Councilwoman Beth Mason on resignation of Peter Cammarano

(Hoboken- Friday, July 31, 2009): ““While this is certainly another sad day for the City of Hoboken, Peter Cammarano did the right thing this morning by offering his resignation. This City deserves to move out from under this black cloud of alleged corruption and get on with the people’s business.

I wish acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer the best of luck and pledge to work with her in getting our local government back on track as we tackle the issues most important to our residents.

That said, many of my supporters from across the city have asked me whether I intend to run for mayor in November’s special election. In a time of crisis, people are clearly looking for a viable alternative who can unite the people of Hoboken to fix the city’s problems. As a person who has been a corporate executive living here for over 25 years and who has been a good government advocate all of my life, I am confident that I have the experience and vision this City needs to move forward. I am taking this opportunity to discuss my future plans with my family and I plan on making a final decision announcing my plans in the near future.

- 2nd Ward Councilwoman Beth Mason

"I am trying more Onion-esque headlines to give my website a little more editorial flair. It is just a little joke."

Don't quit your day job.
Hudson Shark- I don't care if you back Beth Mason or Idi Amin. Just try to get a little sense of humor. While you may not find my headline funny there is certainly a degree of truth in it. Beth got creamed due to some really bad political decisions and hence came in third place. No shame in that per se but that was one poorly run campaign and a waste of big time and money. I already see the same behaviors again that will doom her politically. As her supporter I would hope you honestly see this happening as well.

Hudson Shark, you like Lenz are a warrior, I'll give you that. Let Beth know that her clamoring to be in the press all the time is not helping her image one bit.
I like a little onion in my soup. "Candidate to run for mayor, seeking reduced role in city government."

Kurt if I didn't have a sense of humor I'd have posted a long ranting raving post like someone we know (coughtonycough). Don't quit you day job was just me busting your chops.

Hudson Shark...who are you? I read you posts on this Forum and I want to know where your perspective is coming from. The steering committee of Hoboken Revolt are posted on the home page of this site...I believe our e-mail addresses are available on this site also (if not mine is "hobokenrustydog@aol.com") and we appear regularly and do not hide behind screen names on this site. Others post using their real names on this site and others.

Maybe others know who you are, but I don't. I'd like to understand who you are and how you have arrived at your positions -

I believe it was the last Council meeting where a respected Hoboken resident stood up and disclaimed ownership of a screen name (I believe it was "JollyRogers"). It is amazing to me that people have to defend or claim ownership of anonymous posting names.

On this site, I would like people to say who the are, this will permit a more honest exchange of ideas.

Hudson Shark, will agree and identify who you are? Will InfotainMe agree also?

Thank you.
I'd like to point out that Idi Amin is dead.

Thank you.

I am a Hoboken Resident who has been involved for quite sometime. I have posted on other forums and now post on Hoboken Revolt. There are plenty of people who do not post under their real names, so I am not quite sure why you are singling me out and asking me to state who I am. If Hoboken411 did that to someone there would be an uproar by many of the posters on this website.

Fellow Revolters,

Despite Hudson Shark's protests, the word is he served as a staffer to Beth Mason's campaign.
The ID of The Shark is well document throughout local political circles.

Obviously Shark and his other Mason minions are still reeling from the ineffective campaign platform of "Vote for Mason because she's not with Lenz or Soares or Marsh, and oh, by the way Dawn gave out Lottery Tickets." strategy.

One would think such that $400,000 brain trust would have been more successful last May.

Sharkie I would not accuse you of being either of those names, however I would prefer to see you show some shark like qualities in telling others reasons for your support of said candidate.

Do you have a candidate Sharkie?

Tony you keep accusing me of being Thomas Bertoli and you are wrong. Michael Lenz accused Jake Stuiver of being the Hudson Shark as well and again he was wrong. You are obsessed. I am entitled to post under this name if I choose too, Too bad if you don't like it Tony.

Tony you keep claiming I am Tommy Bertoli and you are wrong. If you have something to say to Mr. Bertoli I suggest you just do it. If you'd like I will come speak at a City Council meeting after Labor Day. No problem.

I do not request that you and you alone identify themselves and I apologize if you think my post was a direct slight against you (although I don't think you did because I think your response was polite and respectful). I think you are vocal about your opinions and I think Hoboken needs more conversation about how the City runs and the direction that it will take at this crucial crossroad. However, it is dfficult to understand what posts really mean when the writer and the motivation isn't known. I don't know Tommy Bertoli and you may or may not be him. I have met Jake several times. You could be either of them or anyone else.

I would like to talk with you and part of me wishes you are JimVance or Lane Bajardi b/c I think we all need to start talking with one another and find our common ground...otherwise it will continue to be business as usual.

I just feel that there is too much harm done by anonymous posters and shouldn't we all be talking to one another as neighbors - instead of anonymous postings?

Will you identify yourself and/or would you be willing to sit down and talk?
Toni makes an excellent point about the pressing need for open, honest dialogue, now more than ever. I recall Jim Vance spoke out at the 8/5 Council meeting about the negativity attached to anonymous blogging. While that already seems to be ramping up again, it would be great if this Forum could be one place where people honestly own their opinions.
