Now that everyone is coming out of the wood work to run for the city council, I will be the first to say that in order to really get to know the candidates we need a "series" of debates.
Debates are great when they are conducted properly. The debate between lenz and tim was a joke.
Bad questions, scripted bs and you really did not get a chance to really debate.
It doesn't matter who you vote for or which team you are on or rooting for .....
a good debate on the issues is what is needed to really get to know each candidate.
I would like to see one-on-one debates with each race. Filmed as well so everyone can view at a later time. The Patch could host one, MSV, HobokenJournal, even H411. Possibly at Stevens, Elks or the churches are fine.
Discuss qualifications, what YOU will do differently, the issues and why you should you be a city councilperson.
Discussing the issues !

1st Ward: Castellano (old guard, Russo relative, representative of tax takers) vs. Kurta (poster child of reform, tax payer)
2nd Ward: Mason (power hungry enabler of old guard, no ethics) vs. Greaney (soft-spoken, well thought-out reformer, tax payer)
3rd Ward: Russo (son of Anthony and Michelle - enough said) vs. anybody (nobody could be worse than Russo)
4th Ward: Occipinti (intellectually challenged, might have a date with NJ AG before May anyway) vs. anybody who will actually get elected by the real voters (Lenz, Pinchevsky, Stuiver, ???, all tax payers)
5th/6th Wards: to be determined
