Hoboken Revolt

The Hoboken Tax Reform Coalition

Real Results states:"Where could the cuts come from? Lots of places. The athletic budget..." Ms. Sullivan, YOU are the chair of the Athletics Committee.
Sullivan made ono cuts.

Real Resutls says "Despite an audit that pointed to lots of waste, the transportation budget is going up again, to $1.2 million," As the Chair of the Transportation Committee, why havent you recommended or looked into outsourcing this? What cuts have you made to this dept?
Sullivan did not recommend looking into outsourcing or made any cuts to this department.

Real Results says "But when the custodians' contract was being negotiated early this year, the board got virtually no concessions and agreed to over-the-top extras like a $750 annual clothing allowance for each custodian" Sullivan is Chair of the Custodial (facilites) committee.
Sullivan signed the contact and did not make any suggestions or cuts.

Ms. Sullivan is not up for election on Tuesday, therefore let's focus our attention on those members who we could potentially replace:
Sobolov and Markle. These 2 must go, as they are part of the old Hoboken machine.
If you what you said about Sullivan is true, then she did not do her job and should not be re-elected. But she is not running. The transportation budget is mind boggling. I agree that Sobolov and Markle must go. When I see that my neighbors who voted for Cammarano now have KF signs in their doorways, it says a lot.
Her "incompentence"?

Meatloaf, you keep sending big fat pitches right over the plate.

I think these examples prove Sullivan's point that she couldn't get anything done. I watched the last school board meeting and she puts up a helluva fight to keep these superintendents from getting a raise (or paid days off or whatever you want to call it). But the other board members, including McAllister, started going on about how wonderful and hard-working the administrators are. So it looks like even if Sullivan tried to make changes, her KF counterparts wouldn't play ball.

In a previous post she said she didn't chair the negotiating committee, that it was Ruth McAllister. But the minutes from May 19, 2009, say it was Jimmy Farina (which doesn't make sense but who knows.)

Quite a starting lineup on the athletics committee: Jimmy Farina (the guy with the building at the high school field named after him), Frances Rhodes-Kearns (ran for city council with Peter Cammarano) and Rose Markel (the board president who is on all the committees and who could have pushed hard for cuts to the athletic department but doesn't want to upset her friends, the coaches).

On the technology commitee it's Sullivan, Farina and Carmelo Garcia (another Machine hack) and Markel is on all the committees. I give credit to Sullivan for even showing up in a room with those guys.

Standing Committees Chair Member Member
a. Governance T. Minutillo M. Sullivan R. McAllister
b. Curriculum/Program R. McAllister C. Garcia M. Sullivan
c. Finance T. Minutillo P. DeFalco R. McAllister
d. Athletic/Performing/ M. Sullivan J. Farina F. Rhodes-Kearns
Arts/Music/Extra Curr.
e. Facilities/Transportation/Tech M. Sullivan C. Garcia J. Farina
f. Negotiations : PSA R. McAllister T. Minutillo R. Markle
g. Negotiations: Custodian J. Farina R. McAllister M. Sullivan
I am hearing a lot of excuses and little solutions. Sound familiar? Give you a hint, sits on CC...wastes the public's time.....smears opponents....provides no solutions.....

Committee reports are presented in public, at every board meeting. Sullivan has yet to make any recommendations or note any issues. Interestingly, he comments about the committees she runs are always rose. Case in point, the custodial contract. She went out of her way to say we worked long and hard, she signed it and voted for it. Now she complains about it. Check the tapes.

"I give credit to Sullivan for even showing up in a room with those guys". Really? This is what you expect of her , showing up? Glad to hear that because apparently that is all she does. the voters elected her to deliver. She, like Mason, needs to take the hint and step down. Blocking progress is not something the board needs now.
She's not up for election, but her slate most certainly is. And it's Maureen First making the robocalls to Hoboken voters.

Actually Sullivan is running: by proxy. She called for a slate to run against Kids First when she resigned after riding their coat tails to victory.

Last fall I encouraged the Kids First slate to run Liz Markevitch, a prime supporter of mine and KF last year. Rose Markle and Theresa Minutillo vetoed the idea. I was told later that it was because she was "too strong." Liz, a community activist for decades and owner of her own recruiting business, was perfectly capable of putting together a ticket to run with her.

I also suggested Scott Delea, a leader of the lower-taxes movement. He also was rejected by Theresa because he didn't support Carol Marsh in her mayoral campaign.

Rose Markle said in an email to the Kids First inner circle, including Mike Lenz and Tony Soares, and cc'd to me that KF was being "pushed" by board member Carmelo Garcia, a prime example of the old guard Machine, to put together a ticket. How did Carmelo Garcia get in a position to "push" KF into anything? (Here it is...I've removed their email addresses and put in their names.)

I am writing to state facts:

It has been blogged/written in the newspaper that Carmelo is making the picks for Kids First ticket. I would like to tell everyone that he is pushing for us to pick Maureen's boy SCOTT DELEA. So if I am now the machine what does that make Scott Delea? or Maureen?

ROTFLMAO

Just how dumb are you? Did you read the email? It actually makes YOU look bad. All the email says is that Carmelo was pushing for YOUR guy. Your logic escapes me.
I am so glad that you find it okay to make up a letter like that. Shows how far you will go to try and get your ticket to win. It is clear that you made it up. Emails from Rose Markle do not come up like that. Or any email that I have seen. They state her full name. Good try at forging an email. Maybe next time you'll get it right.

This is helpful to anyone who thinks they can speak to you in confidence I guess. Now they know better. Other than that...

this email is really damming. just from the way KF has been voting the past few months, we already knew that they basically merged with the remnants of the old machine. now we find out that Carmelo was in on the negotiations over who to put on the KF ticket. We keep hearing that Carmelo backs three of the four KF candidates. Now we know why. He helped put together the ticket. Since when do reformers consult key members of the machine on who to put on their ticket? If voters elect KF tomorrow, all they're doing is bringing the machine back into power. Reform will be dead on the school board and the schools will continue to decline. Even if Minutillo wants to vote for a reform now and then, just to remember what it feels like, Rose and Irene will block her at every step, not to mention Carmelo.
And as for making up the email, Meatloaf, I'm betting you saw it at the time and this is no surprise.
Publishing private emails? Is this your "real world knowhow" and professionalism? What's next making backroom deals with the machine to get one of your slate first past the post?
