Hoboken Revolt

The Hoboken Tax Reform Coalition

Retraction denied by council candidate

Hoboken Southwest Parks Coalition member Sara Stojkovic is a bit miffed at Dawn Zimmer running mate Dave Mello - for failing to follow-through with a retraction letter that was promised as a result of some blatant misinformation that was “printed” a few weeks ago:

REPORTER RETRACTIONS:

Hoboken Reporter, Briefs, page 8:

Two weeks ago, the Reporter erroneously stated that City Council candidate Dave Mello was engaged in local parks initiative SW6. He actually did not say he was engaged in the SW6 plan, but rather, that he was a former member of the Southwest Parks Coalition. SW6 refers to a plan for a 6-acre park in the southwest corner of town rather than the group itself.

Hopefully this clears some things up.

From Dave Mello himself:

Dear Hoboken 411 Readers,

I will not respond to this unfortunate letter in this forum. However, I will say that I have never misrepresented my past involvement with any Hoboken activist group. When the Hoboken Reporter mistakenly referred to the name of a group I had been involved with as “SW6″, I handled the paper’s mistake in a number of ways, including immediately reaching out to the founder of HSPC to make her aware of the paper’s error and by contacting the Reporter offices in person and asking for a clearing up of their error. I have, and will never, claim to have been part of the HSPC at the time when the SW6 Plan was developed nor during the time that this group went by the name Hoboken Southwest Parks Coalition rather than their original name of Southwest Parks Coalition.

I encourage anyone who is curious about the facts surrounding this event to come out to our campaign’s Coffee with the Candidates Kick-Off, this morning (Saturday), from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM where I will be more than willing to answer any questions voters may have about my background and involvement in Hoboken and the fight to gain more open space in our City. This fight is near and dear to my heart, and I will always fully support it, both as a citizen and should I be elected your Councilman At-Large.

Sincerely,

Dave Mello
I met Dave Mello a couple of weeks ago, and I like him. He seems to be an honest and decent person. I wanted to meet all the candidates that Zimmer picked, because I won’t vote for them unless they appear genuine. Even after this article came out, it did not shake off my first impression about Dave.
Dave, you don’t have to let articles such as the one above bother you for a moment.
I have full confidence that together with Ravi and Carol Marsh you will be able to do the right thing for your constituency.
