Hoboken Revolt

The Hoboken Tax Reform Coalition

I have a sign in my front window supporting Eric Kurta.  This A M a city worker stopped me when I was coming out of my front door.

He told me that I better take down the sign because the "ORIGINAL HOBOKEN PEOPLE LIKE HIM" had won the School Board Election and were taking over again.  I asked how he figured that.  He said they have enough voters like he and his family, who work for the City and live in Marine View and apartments like Church Towers, HHA buildings etc. They can vote in anyone they want.  He said "New Hobokenites" are lazy and do not care; so they do  not vote.

It seems to have worked in the School Board election.  They simply go to every tenant in "their" buildings and get absentee ballots and then take in the absentee votes.  Needless to say Mike Russo's boast that these people vote as told is no idle boast.

We all had better make sure we vote on Election Day and send in an absentee ballot  if we cannot make it.  We do not want to go back to overstaffed and bloated City Departments and boondoggles like the City Garage fiasco.  Dawn Zimmer has done a good job of reining in the City's excesses. Let us not go back to the dark days of Russo, Roberts and the feckless Mason!

That "exchange" sounds made up but I guess your attempt to get people excited about voting for the wrong reasons should be expected. Vote on the issues and not the faces.
Sounds like Old Hoboken.  I just report the facts; as Joe Friday used to say on Dragnet.  With the actions of the Russo-Mason machine and their flunkies; no one has to make up anything.   Truth is stranger than fiction!
  1. Actually the VBM's are concentrated in the 4th Ward. Probably 75% of them. In CT or MV they do it the old fashioned way, knocking on doors. We can't win all the Wards, but at least 4 are in play. Maybe without spring break week when many reformers take vacations we can add one or two more.
I know Gene and if he says it happened, it happened.
Not only do I believe Gene, I have had similar conversations with many people who have lived in town for many years or a lifetime. It seems that people seem to have the beliefs of their peer group and if they get any shred of information, right or wrong, from what they consider a credible source such as an acquaintance, they believe it. Old Hobokenites are no exception. Very few people on either side of the coin make an attempt to stay informed by reading papers, watching council meetings, etc. On top of that the disinformation out there is staggering.

Make no mistake.  Those that seek to do their deeds hope that nobody is watching, and that nobody cares enough to show up at the polls.

The most important thing we can do as citizens is to vote, and to encourage others to do the same.
