Hoboken Revolt

The Hoboken Tax Reform Coalition

Dear Hoboken Revolt Steering Committee,

I write in response to your letter requesting information regarding the status of making the Public Safety Audit and operational audits available to the public.

I agree with you and the many Hoboken residents that believe an open and accountable City government is in the best interest of all parties.

As you noted in your letter, I called for the release of the public safety audits early in 2009, and I am pleased to inform you that just this afternoon, State DCA Director Jacobbuci told me that the Police audit is in the final editing stage. She committed to provide the Police Audit to the City by January 18th. Once the City receives the document I will provide Police Chief Falco and Public Safety Director Alicea with one week to review the audit before it is released publicly.

Unfortunately the State did not complete departmental audits or an audit of the Fire Dept. Therefore my Administration is currently working to further evaluate all city operations.

In addition, we are diligently working to make City Hall and all of the Hoboken government open and available to all residents. We have and will continue to implement processes and procedures to make applicable records and information readily available. Next month, thanks to a grant from the County, experts will be on-site assisting with reviewing all documents on the 3rd floor of City Hall. Plans are underway to enhance the City Hall website to improve access to records electronically.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide you with the information I have available on this matter and the steps I have and will continue to take to obtain the requested information.

Sincerely,

Mayor Zimmer

I've lived in Hoboken since 2001. My wife and I are leaving Hoboken and moving to the "country" so to speak with our new born. I think after years of disappointment and disgrace of public officials in Hoboken, Mayor Zimmer should be commended on her ethics and holding true to her platform. The reign of abuse with public funds will soon to be at an end. Its re-assuring to see people standing up for just causes and accountability. Thank You Mayor Zimmer for helping to champion this cause.

Hopefully you are right and she can turn the town around. But let's not kid ourselves into thinking she is going to make Hoboken a perfectly run city. The police dept burns money like it's going out of style, the schools are poorly run by overpaid admin, and the infrastructure of the town is a mess (every other week there is a flood or a road being dug up). I voted for her in both elections, but Hoboken (just like the country) has tons of problems that no one person can fix.

Abuse of our public funds will soon come to an end? Have another glass of the Lafite 2001, you delusional pantywaist transient. The police in our city are laughing at us. They are laughing at YOU.

There must be 150 policemen on the payroll in Hoboken for a one square mile area, with a very easy job, when compared to what other police officers in Camden, Newark, Trenton and other cities face.

Hoboken's Police Officers are constantly talking on their cell phones while they drive. On foot or in their cars, they scowl and stare angrily at us. When you visit the precinct or speak with commanding officers by phone, they communicate their contempt.

Truth is, they think YOU and all the other taxpayers in this town are "chumps". They have great pay and health benefits and a pension, all paid by YOU.

When you spend a little time with them, as I have, you will come to understand their deep disrespect and loathing for the residents of Hoboken.

gazianogirling well it was a good try. You came here trying to bait the revolt group and after 14 hours, now, numerous people have read your screed and have refused to participate in your little exercise.

The truth is Hoboken Revolt appreciates and honors our fine police and fire services. We just want contracts that are reasonable and won't harm our community years from now.

The audits are now scheduled to be released and the state monitor knows Hoboken residents are engaged in the budget process and will welcome reasonable contracts.

No "little exercise" here! Take a walk through town and see how many police officers give you a warmhearted, charitable smile! We've been here twenty-three years, and the cops have never been so hostile and alienating... We want reasonable contracts! In fact, many residents I know want reasonable contracts for the police and fire department AT HALF THEIR CURRENT SIZE! We don't need hundreds of police officers here, and we definitely don't need those on HGH and other steroids looking for exposure on the Chippendale's 2010 or 2011 calendar, while we pay their ridiculous salaries and benefits package. Grow up. Don't be conned by moneyed transients who stay here for a few years until they pop out a kid or two then flee to Short Hills, leaving you holding the pension bag. We're not being facetious or comic here. WE WANT A REAL REVOLT. WE WANT HALF THE FORCE OFF THE PAYROLL. GGP

Honestly, I never see policemen walking the streets, so I did not notice their contempt. Maybe if they get out of their cars (other than just parking illegally by DeFiore to get their sandwiches) and start patrolling the streets to prevent future robberies and break-ins I will look at their faces.

Now here is someone with whom I can have an intelligent conversation. A realist who isn't dependent upon massive doses of serotonin reuptake inhibitors and St. John's Wort to get through the day.

People, prove me wrong! Walk the streets! Stop by Police Headquarters and document how you are received!

We don't need more milquetoasts like "TOM" telling us he's been in town since 2001, and because he's suddenly grown tired of seeing his hamper full of soiled diapers, he's running to Upper Montclair for some country air.

We need MEN and WOMEN around here, decision makers. We don't need any more "Publicis Account Executives" or dynamic "Six Sigma MBAs" from Citicorp whose stock, after a $45 Billion dollar taxpayer bailout is now trading for $3.

We need real MEN and real WOMEN around here for a REVOLT, to assist the new Mayor in cutting the Police Department down to size.

Goffygrilbiatche, you really need to come to grips with your ANGER ISSUES. Nobody expects Hoboken to become a "perfect" city and while government officials are well overstaffed and overpaid, Hoboken has been transformed over the past 30 years as a result. You're rhetoric sounds more like a liberal candyass who's upset you get paid $40,000 because you didn't have the confidence to stand up and be a leader or get a real job. If you have some much passion for "your city" then put down your laptop and take up a public position to affect change. Too busy handing out dandelions and latte`s?

I've spent most of my time bloggin about the abuses and injustice in this city and finally had something positive to say about a person who is trying to champion that cause. You're one of those people who live thinking this is your cause.

If only spending 8 years here and trying to support Revolt for its efforts makes me a "pantywaist transient" then I guess that's fine, but your miss guided ranting certainly shows your immaturity and insecurity. And for the record, the corruption started and is still most prevalent with the long standing residents of Hoboken. The "transient" voters are the ones who got tired of being milked like cows after resurrecting Hoboken.

This City doesn't need a REVOLT.. It needs a plan. You should spend some time reviewing the Mayor's platform, the new Council's progress and the efforts of those who are working to force change. "We need real MEN and real WOMEN around here for a REVOLT?" Please... REAL MEN don't hide in blogs taking aim at people for applauding public servants for trying to make a difference. Constructive comments should help your anger issues. Either that or try going "Postal" so my tax dollars can go to work as the steroid pumped police force dumps you in the next high rise's foundation.

I HAVE NO GRIPE WITH THE FACT THAT THE SO CALLED "AUDIT" IS NOW READY AND MAY BE DISTRIBUTED. IT RELATES TO PERSONNEL AND THAT COULD BE "EXECUTIVE SESSION" WHERE W DO NOT GET O HEAR ANYTHING

BETTER YET, "TRANSPARENT" IS ONE OF THE WORDS THAT HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE DICTIONARY. SO HOBOKEN IS NO LONGER TRANSARENT

THAT IS OBVIOUS BY THE FACT THAT THE DECEMBER 16, 2009 MEETING "TELEVISED" ---THE ENTIRE BEGINNING IS MISSING. WHY????? PERSONNEL

Tommy Numb Nuts,

Firstly, the last thing you want to do is compare W2s.

When we meet, and I am hopeful that one day we will, you will soil your adult diaper upon viewing my tax statements. They are mind-blowing.

Resurrecting Hoboken? I don't know what designer drug suppositories you're using, but over the past eight years, this town has been turned into a post-college dormitory for douche nozzles.

When a longshoreman's hangout like Kelly's is gutted to make way for a bogus wine bar full of ultra-white Six Sigma automatons, you know the end is nigh.

You can call these moneyed "junior executive" transients "YUNNIES" - young, urban narcissists -- the perfect neighborhood destruction machines due to their lack of empathy, sense of entitlement, and contempt for those "beneath" them.

The town is soulless. The character and soul has been sucked out of it. There's next to nothing of original value left here. Hoboken has been reduced to a high-density crucible of empty lifestyle consultants.

We've gone from ON THE WATERFRONT to AT THE NAIL SALON.

Here's my solution for gazianogirling -- just leave! I'm sure that a 28 year resident such as yourself has made plenty on your appreciation - no doubt good compensation for us Yuppie Narcissists invading your blue collar paradise. That's assuming that you own and aren't part of the project crowd - including those in the rent controlled apartments that seem to think they have a right to their subsidy. Grow up you old wench! You'd rather the riverfront be the toxic paradise it was only a few years ago while machine politicians like Camarano were the rule? There are many problems the town has inherited from years of corruption and neglect. Us Yuppies are the reason why you finally have a real mayor like Zimmer.

You can go back to listening to your Frank records and reminiscing about your days with the longshoremen at the Clam Broth House. I'll stick to Starbucks.

You could call a mental health hotline and explain your predicament, but the part-time work/study counselor with no health insurance on the other end of the line will tell you what I’m telling you now: GET OUT.

Rabid, soulless, douche bags have overrun the city.

And you’re broke.

If not financially, then mentally and spiritually.

You can’t fight all of them.

There was a time when you could fight them, yes, even two or three at once, verbally if that worked, but if not, with a tire iron or a sport sock filled with rolls of quarters.

But not now.

You can’t beat an infestation.

It’s time to get off the anti-depressants.

It’s time to leave Hoboken.
