If he won't step down then there is no alternative; he must be forced to step down--plain and simple

This just in from Dawn Zimmer:

Dear Friends,

I wanted to send a quick note to share my thoughts on the shocking and disturbing events that unfolded yesterday.

As I am sure you all know, Mayor Cammarano has been arrested and charged with accepting cash campaign contributions in exchange for his promise to expedite development projects.

I am stunned by this news, and concerned about our town. I have read the complaint against Mayor Cammarano, and while he is entitled to the presumption of innocence, these are very serious charges.

I have publicly urged Mayor Cammarano to resign because I believe it is in the best interest of Hoboken.

No matter how this matter is ultimately resolved, I do not believe that the Mayor can perform his duties while the matter is pending. His criminal defense will be extremely time-consuming, leaving him with insufficient time to manage the city's business.

In addition, the nature of the charges will, rightly or wrongly, compromise the perceived legitimacy of many of the important decisions that he will be called upon to make as Mayor.

Unfortunately, the Mayor announced today that he has decided not to resign, a decision at odds with his own "zero tolerance" policy that he referred to just two weeks ago when he demanded the resignation of a Housing Authority Commissioner under very similar circumstances.

I fervently hope that after he has had an opportunity to reflect more carefully about the situation, Mr. Cammarano will reconsider and do what is best for the community he is duty bound to serve.

If Mayor Cammarano does decide to change his mind and resign, then I, as City Council President, would become Acting Mayor, subject to approval by the City Council. Ultimately, a special election would be held and the people of Hoboken would choose our new Mayor.

I will be in touch soon with further updates.
Thanks.
Hey, where's my buddy, Joe Carro? Come out, come out - wherever you are.
Remember that many people in the Hoboken City Hall apparatus owe their paychecks to . . . Hizzoner. Just as he and many like him could literally buy votes on election day, there is no difficulty motivating an audience to be there with bells on. We are far from the end of this epoch. They won't yield without trying to pull the house down. Simply too many having too much to lose. Compare Hoboken with Teheran, Kiev, Beijing, etc., etc.: The ruling power always mobilizes for a showdown, all for the cameras. We'll see more before the grease settles.

Just 9 days ago...

New Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano released a statement on former transition team ally Hector Claveria today, following Claveria's arrest yesterday (see breaking news below):

“These are serious allegations which are currently proceeding through the judicial system. This Administration has a clear-cut, zero tolerance policy against any violation of the public trust and I am calling for Housing Authority Commissioner Claveria to resign his position with the Hoboken Housing Authority immediately. Should he refuse to resign, I am demanding that the City Council President immediately begin proceedings for his removal pursuant to New Jersey State statute 40A:12A-17.”
This was posted elsewhere but the address was left out. It's 1113 Bloomfield.

ALL, THERE WILL BE A MASS PROTEST IN FRONT OF PETER CAMMARANO'S HOME TOMORROW MORNING (SATURDAY) AT 11AM, AND AGAIN MONDAY EVENING AT 6PM.

If you voted for Peter: Innocent or not in a court of law, unless he "Categorically Denies" that it was absolutely NOT him who said all those things at the Malibu Diner, he betrayed your trust and lied to all of you. If you have any patriotism to put the good of the people over one's own personal gain, you must be compelled to insist that he resigns immediately for the good of our city. He simply cannot conduct a government when he intends that 50% of the residents (less 161) to be ground to dust!

If you did not vote for Peter: Fear not, he cannot outlast the imminent pressure. Regardless, we must insist that he resigns immediately. And we must use the power of the voice of the people to do this, as has been done successfully time and time again. Neither he nor his cronies should be permitted to run our city another minute.

ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES IN DEMOCRACY AND THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO ATTEND THE PROTEST. IF YOU THINK IT IS UNETHICAL TO DEMONSTRATE IN FRONT OF HIS PRIVATE RESIDENCE, THINK ABOUT HOW MUCH HIS WORDS AND LIES HAVE AND WILL IMPACT YOUR FAMILIES AND YOUR LIFE AS OUR CITY STUMBLES ALONG AT SUCH A CRITICAL TIME! WE MUST EXERT ALL LEGAL PRESSURE, AND WE HAVE THE LEGAL RIGHT TO PROTEST, AT HIS STEPS, UNTIL HE RELEASES OUR CITY FROM HIS CORRUPT, ILL-INTENTIONED GRIP. I WILL NOT BE GROUND INTO DUST, AND NEITHER SHALL OUR CITY! JOIN ME TOMORROW MORNING, AND AGAIN MONDAY EVENING TO SPEAK THE PUBLIC'S VOICE UNTIL HE RESIGNS!

DELIVER US FROM EVIL!!!
Cammarano must resign immediately! I believe that Zimmer must auoimatically step in.
HE MUST RESIGN IMMEDIATELY!!!!
if he cared about hoboken, we would vacate office at least by 'leave'. A prudent man has to understand that this is bigger than him and hoboken stands plenty to lose. No matter his defense to the charges, the effect of his continued position as mayor on hoboken is destructive. He must leave - now - not use the city position as a bargaining chip in a plea bargain.
Hoboken Revolt is planning an announcement shortly regarding actions that the steering committee is getting ready to implement. In the mean time...please urge everyone you know to write the Mayor and ask him to do the right thing and step down..his e-mail address is "Pcammarano@hobokennj.org"

Please take the time too write and write soon.
He is disgusting and must resign now.
Brian--I said the same thing. He probably paid them $5k to clap.
