I'm at a loss for words......Disgraceful
PC must resign, now!
Chuck Brodsky wrote a song about a town like Hoboken. Its called 'Boys in the Backroom.' I think we are at the part of the song where the boys are 'desperate to hold on.' Cammarano and his backers just trying to hang on.

I can't wait for more stupidity and inept city government from Hoboken. More of the same to come. We would have been better off with Roberts spending all of our money on new piers that will never be used. Is there a reset button on this thing?
Who is clapping for him?!?!?!?!?
How will it work when he steps down/is forced out? Will Dawn automatically step in?
That's what I was wondering! Who in their right mind would want to be allied with him right now? Developers?

Amy, this is from the Hoboken Reporter:

While newly elected Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano spends the day after his birthday answering a corruption charge in Newark, the city is being run by state appointed financial monitor Judy Tripodi, who was brought in last year to deal with the city's financial mess.

Hoboken City Hall spokesman Paul Drexel said today that Cammarano, who was arrested this morning as part of a wide-ranging FBI sting, is the one who can appoint an acting mayor in his absence. A regular mayor cannot be appointed until he resigns.

Drexel said that Cammarano can appoint from within his city directors, or the city clerk.

Since his new directors were not confirmed by the City Council last night, the only director who could be confirmed is John Pope, who was already a city director and would just be moving to a different department. In addition, longtime city clerk James Farina could be chosen.

Meanwhile, some observers are criticizing Cammarano, noting that last week, Cammarano said he had a "zero tolerance" policy on corruption. Cammarano asked former Hoboken Housing Authority Commissioner Hector Claveria to step down immediately because Claveria was arrested on a charge of taking a bribe. Claveria has not yet gone to trial.

Now, some are saying that Cammarano should also step down for the time being.

"That is something he has to answer for," said Cammarano's recent opponent in the mayoral election, City Council President Dawn Zimmer.

Zimmer said she has been discussing with the city attorney what her role will be while Cammarano is out of commission.

This just in from Dawn Zimmer:

Dear Friends,

I wanted to send a quick note to share my thoughts on the shocking and disturbing events that unfolded yesterday.

As I am sure you all know, Mayor Cammarano has been arrested and charged with accepting cash campaign contributions in exchange for his promise to expedite development projects.

I am stunned by this news, and concerned about our town. I have read the complaint against Mayor Cammarano, and while he is entitled to the presumption of innocence, these are very serious charges.

I have publicly urged Mayor Cammarano to resign because I believe it is in the best interest of Hoboken.

No matter how this matter is ultimately resolved, I do not believe that the Mayor can perform his duties while the matter is pending. His criminal defense will be extremely time-consuming, leaving him with insufficient time to manage the city's business.

In addition, the nature of the charges will, rightly or wrongly, compromise the perceived legitimacy of many of the important decisions that he will be called upon to make as Mayor.

Unfortunately, the Mayor announced today that he has decided not to resign, a decision at odds with his own "zero tolerance" policy that he referred to just two weeks ago when he demanded the resignation of a Housing Authority Commissioner under very similar circumstances.

I fervently hope that after he has had an opportunity to reflect more carefully about the situation, Mr. Cammarano will reconsider and do what is best for the community he is duty bound to serve.

If Mayor Cammarano does decide to change his mind and resign, then I, as City Council President, would become Acting Mayor, subject to approval by the City Council. Ultimately, a special election would be held and the people of Hoboken would choose our new Mayor.

I will be in touch soon with further updates.
Thanks.
There is in fact an online petition going around

What I want to know is who are the schmucks applauding that piece of sheet in the background?
The people who he will have to hand over to the feds so he could shorten his stay in the jail.
