I disagree completely. The St. Patty's celebration is one of the events that puts Hoboken on the map, and anything to grab dollars that our residents usually spend in NYC is a good thing. I know it sucks if you live on Washington or Newark, but you did choose to live on the same street as most of the bars in town. Last year $400k in fines were handed out, let's see what the total is this year before we rush to judgment. I've already heard of 2 $3K house party fines from random elevator conversations, so I think the cops made some money.
However, here are two changes I'd like to see. If we allow the bars to open at 9am, charge them for the privilege. The city should have had the bars apply for the early opening, and charged them some amount ($1K?). Also, the fact that the city doesn't charge the bars some fee for St. Patty's is a disgrace. Many bars were charging $20-30 cover, since they know they'll be packed. Why doesn't the town take 30% of the cover charge?
